So much has happened these past months since Covid-19 became a fact of our lives. Not all of it awful.

On the positive side and a personal level, even more so since that fateful day, Saturday, October 10th, when NH/ZOP Board Member, Sue deVeer, informed me she had arranged a $50,000 pledge for our organization from an anonymous donor, intended to be matched many fold over, to be gifted to the NH/ZOP Publishing Fund!

OMG!!

 

I'm the only publishing person around here, meaning NOW I get to use my time quarantining creatively, happily, as long as I'm healthy, having the opportunity, sooner rather than later, to bring my G-d given gifts, as expressed in my writings – out into the greater world!  

OMG!!

I always knew it was coming,= from somewhere but not from where or when. Isn't that amazing!  

I call it faith, faith in oneself and faith in a higher order.

OMG!! Was that Saturday ever to start in motion HUGE HAPPENINGS for ME and New Horizons/Small “Zones of Peace.

One of the biggest so far is that for the first time ever I am going to try my hand at writing fiction, fantasy/historical fiction. And, you all, my loyal followers are just gonna love it!

Here are a few details with more to come soon.

Working Title: Book I, ……. tba of intended four part fantasy/historical fiction series, titled Lost Hope Regained.

Main Character: ME!! A fictionalized alter ego, representing ME to be named ……tba. who in the course of the series becomes an adventure hero, a total Goddess with healing powers.

What did you expect??

One of the key themes: Anastasia’s alter ego's journey to live out the directive of her “Prophecy.”

How’s that for starters? 

Fun looking from my end. First time I'll be writing a book, intending to have fun with it. 

Having the great team being put together for me by Kevin Anderson & Associates to provide me with optimum talent and support is key to the fun I'm counting on.

11/11 Update: Now rescheduled to Saturday, November 14, due to Sue's husband's medical emergency and hospitalization last week into this . 

As November days grow shorter and the nights chillier, I (Anastasia) find myself needing to go indoors at sunset where almost no one will be able to join me for storytelling, much to my chagrin. At least nowhere near, for the coming months.  

Thanks to covid-19 and social distancing rules, I must now make my way -- alone -- or almost, at storytelling time. 

"But isn't storytelling a group activity?" you ask from your seat, wherever it is, possibly as a storyteller convert, new to recognizing this, sometimes, lost art, that has the potential for becoming a vehicle for healing the divisions facing us, at this time in our country.

So there it is: I must now come indoors -- leaving almost everyone else out. After all the New Horizons/Small "Zones Of Peace" (NH/ZOP) former GAME meeting area, spacious as it is, can't compete with our mountainside Forest Bathing Sanctuary and be safe for all.

But covid-19 is teaching me,  -- all of us -- to find new and creative options for being together while far away. So, following on the heels of saying good-by to Daylight Saving Time -- and -- sunset now being an hour earlier, I am going indoors to stay warm by my "fireside," leaving our "fire circle" outside where it lives. Maybe all the way until next spring. 

Darn! But we'll see.

Indoors or out, as wintery weather comes on, those of us, like me, who hate the cold will just have to see how it goes to be outdoors in the brrr cold, for a "new normal." 

In the meantime, come inside with me, while I, your fearless storyteller "tries" to take up the get-hardy-in-the-cold practice of the Scandinavians this winter and check out this fun read I wrote about ten years ago. 

If you let me know you like it, I might just want to get my Warrior Woman self, all bundled up, for a fire circle return before next ???? March ??? April???

An unnamed supporter came forth today, pledging $50,000 of matching funds in support of the publishing, at last, of NH/ZOP Executive Director Anastasia Rosen-Jones' “Random House Trilogy.” 

Sparked by word of the magnificence, impact and timeliness of Anastasia’s Mss Study Group Series, a masked and anonymous donor has pledged $50,000 as matching funds to move this project of the NH/ZOP into immediate fast forward.  While fundraising plans take shape, these funds will become immediately available.

Credit for orchestrating the donation goes to Board Member Sue deVeer who will serve as spokesperson for the donor, until “They” choses to be publicly revealed. 

Updated publication date for the first of Anastasia’s collection of writings is expected to be Labor Day, 2021. Look for further details and updates as they are established.

We, At New Horizons/Small “Zones Of Peace” Lost Almost All Of Our September Work Time.

And that on the heels of also losing most of August too. 

Thank goodness time was all we lost!

(Actually, truth be told, I did lose a pseudo-friend at the mis-event of August. She had only months earlier vowed to be my Forever Friend. 

However, having lived a significant portion of my life in the spotlight and having known of hundreds, if not more, people to hitch themselves to my bandwagon, I hadn't believed her, at the time. 

Thank goodness. My REAL friends are DEEP! She was apparently only SURFACE.

Too bad for her!

I'm one of those people whose surface when scratched can open doors to personal and collective transformation, communication. That's the pathway to truth -- and -- eventually awe!

Healing and reconciliation are key! 

Lessons our current president and congress are incapable of doing.

Double too bad for her that she wanted only to scratch Anastasia's surface!

Now back to my original story ..

Illness has struck our tiny counterculture community in a near mortal way. 

But thank G-d not covid!

Yet things have gotten life and death serious these past two months, behind the scenes at the New Horizons/Small “Zones Of Peace” (NH/ZOP) organization, starting not long after my 80th Birthday Celebration. 

In early August Board Member,  also my BFF, Sue, fell off a ladder breaking her arm. While she has been healing from that her husband, Paul, has been hospitalized close to forty days out of the last sixty!

Hit by daily crises, as we all are these days, coming at us from every angle, I find it hard to settle in to the reality that while Sue’s injury was not life threatening, the array of problems Paul is facing are.

Oh dear. Oh dear! 

As I write this, I am struck by how distant I feel from my emotions at this moment. It’s all too much to be able to surface and integrate into full blown, multi-layered reality.

Just too much!

And then there are the California wildfires, burning again out of control.  Board Member Terry and my godchildren, her son and daughter, are in the thick of the headlining fires today.

Just too much! Too much!

This is all so complicated and difficult, especially in this time of the pandemic, scary at times, today especially for Sue, as medical professionals cease to be at hand, now that Paul has been released again from the hospital, with Sue uncertain that bringing him home is the correct next step.

Last week Paul lasted only three days home before he was rushed back to the hospital emergency room, by ambulance, again, for the umpteenth time. 

Has he been released prematurely, Sue wonders, because there is no room at the "inn," our local hospital due to covid? One can't help but wonder about such things, given circumstances.

At seventy-nine, he is at high risk for covid with a heart condition and a variety of other diseases that severely compromise his immune system. And, of course, Sue is still recovering from her injuries.

“But what about me, a little whiny voice whimpers quietly inside of ME,” not wanting to be heard above the crisis-laden commotion hovering over Paul – and Sue? 

And, what about New Horizons/Small “Zones of Peace” where Sue is second in command and totally irreplaceable?

Is this co-dependency nagging at me, evoking the whiney me inside? 

I hope not! 

Interdependent is quite enough dependent for me who has spent most of my life as an ANTI-DEPENDENT. 

Heaven forbid I should actually really, truly want something from someone else, want to wholly rely on another person! 

Lean on someone enough to say “Hey, she (and he) are not doing well right now and I don’t know how to be all ok without them – my adopted family.”

“Hey. Hey. Our organization, like all known others, is only as strong as its weakest link and a BIG LINK in our chain is pretty weak right now.”

I guess so am I -- resilient yet weakened by too much stress, if normal functioning would be the high bar I wish reach.

All was going well. Or, so we believed until…Chaos erupted when ...

...an unprepared guest arrived, who needed to pee pee, only to discover there was no available bathroom anywhere nearby. 

And she, citified and unschooled in the ways of Girl Scouts who had gone into forests before her, went into a panic.  Oh, dear! Oh, dear! What an upset.

Her accompanying friend, forewarned, had come with her own toilet paper and was quite willing to share though pee pee woman was having none of it -- and hightailed out of here.

Nonetheless, our wise and wonderful ad hoc Council of Elders is monitoring the scene and making every effort to actively extend the gifts of our exceptional community approach, including: 1. Leaning in; 2. Dialoguing, rather than debating the situation and who was right or wrong; 3. Seeking to manage this upset by "climbing our own unique mountain of awe" to find our way through the challenges.

We'll update you on this when there is more to tell.

Snake control problems. They exist for me although Board Member Sue, our onsite environmental expert and woods woman, with her M. Ed., Environmental Education, says she’s yet to see one while my position is: so what, we do have the real, meaning copperhead and eastern rattlers up here. I've seen the former myself.

And of course Black Bears think of us as welcoming neighbors.

Actually, it’s only my high-up-on-the-side-of-the -mountain neighbor who has seen one of these, as far as I know.

Oh well.  This is mountain living and we are working toward sharing a piece of it with you, as soon as we are able, knowing how very much many of you are already looking forward to a day in the mountains with us, soon.

Transforming Mediocrity Into Magnificence

Transformation Is In The Air!

Creating a new Anastasia The Storyteller blog format is not just gonna pop into being like from a message in a bottle.  For one thing, as my board members and I move forward with this project, ME, the real Anastasia The Storyteller, is now more and more going to be looking for ways for them to join me to collaboratively write future blogs.

Also, these wonderful boosters of mine, will be joining me in forthcoming radio shows, as they did on my last Anastasia The Storyteller Radio Show, celebrating my birthday. It was a first and lots of fun for my awesome team.

We think we are awesome as a team, synergistic and exceptional, more and more, as you will find out for yourselves, as our "new normal" comes into being and we increasingly share what's been going on for us, and continues on -- behind the scenes in our organization.

Find out what these are and how you, too, can be pro-active in transforming mediocrity into magnificence, by staying alive and healthy throughout this crisis time -- in body, mind and spirit, the latter two are our priorities, not the body.

End Of The Month. No Deadlines. Yeah!!!

My new normal.

No blog writing quota deadline for me this month - and few and far between in the future!

Yippee. And agreed no more deadlines on the New Horizons Small "Zones Of Peace" Project either.

Board agreed -- Anastasia can set her own pace on all three of her New Horizons sponsored blog sites, as she wishes.

Instead of maximum stressed, trying to make one last post before the end-of-the month, here I sit on the top deck of my house, watching the moon and the stars overhead, listening to evening birdsong, crickets and cicadas.

The air is fresh and cool after a day of drenching rain.

And I am safe and healthy and enormously grateful.

The Crowning -- And -- The Next Chapter

I was crowned “Goddess Of The Glade” that is the New Horizons/Small “Zones Of Peace” (NH/ZOP) Retreat Center and Forest Bathing Sanctuary, at my 80th birthday celebration. 

It was a beautiful and uplifting event experience for me and for the others attending, both in person, properly socially-distanced, and by conference call, up against the backdrop of the pandemic crisis. 

How good it felt to have reason for celebrating! 

The occasion’s theme, “Celebrate Life: Yours, Mine and Ours,” drove home that all lives matter – and – how very grateful each one of us was to be able to honor a day like this, alive and well. In the midst of this strange and difficult time.

And – for NH/ZOP a new chapter began, ushered in by the “Open To The Public” Pandemic Survivors’ Discussion And Support Group, preceding a set of very special dedications and birthday rituals, created especially for me by my devoted board members.

For the past fourteen years, the work of the two intertwined non-profit organizations, the New Horizons Support Network, Inc. and Small “Zones Of Peace” Inc.  (NH/ZOP), I founded, the latter co-founded by Sue deVeer and myself, have presented many programs on behalf of groups and organizations in our closest local community, Frederick, Maryland, most frequently on a pro bono basis that I/we happily considered a way of paying forward.

Among the best known of these have been our Coffee House Conversations, our Abkhazian Dinners and our specially designed "Conflict Resolution And Anger Management #101" program for the UNESCO Center For Peace for high school students from around the world, based out of Frederick.

But there will be no more of these, on our local level. Certainly, not anytime in the foreseeable future.  

Those days are over, I remind myself, as my thoughts open up the heartache, once again, of the deep sorrows of our present circumstances 

Question: So where do we go from here?

Our coming attractions, already in motion include two major shifts:

1. Present and future programs into the foreseeable future will focus on reaching out beyond the local for national participation, with an intention of establishing regular, ongoing nationwide conference call support groups, and

2. Opening up our very peaceful Forest Bathing Sanctuary for limited, on-site, very small groups. Maximum 4 people. (Next NH/ZOP Forest Bathing Event. August 22 11:30 - 2:30)

And so it was that New Horizons/Small “Zones of Peace” Forest Bathing Sanctuary had its official birthing and dedication, alongside my beautiful, joyful, inspiring, happy 80th birthday celebration.

It was a wonderful day into evening.

• Welcome & Dedication of NH/ZOP Forest Bathing Sanctuary – Executive Director and Founder, Anastasia Rosen-Jones;
• Dedication of NH/ZOP Cairn – Board Member, Lisa;
• Dedication of NH/ZOP Pandemic Memorial – Board Member Sue;

An Open Letter To My Spirit Sister Sue,

Dear Sue, BFF, Collaborator and Board Member,

I’m having such troubles! Writer’s block like you wouldn’t believe. 

OMG!!  Damn! 

Almost this whole time of the pandemic lock-downs, my words, the best of them, I tell you, STUCK inside of me. Stuck!! Stuck! And – me with so much to say – and write about, especially surviving and doing it optimally well. 

That is if you can avoid getting sick.

Would you believe it?

Maybe I just can't write solo anymore. Could that be my problem here???

Can’t???  Wrong keyword! 

Won’t is more like it! 

Frequently, these days, I find myself just staring off into space, losing myself gazing at my trees, often for the better part of the day, stunned, yet feeling enormous gratitude that I'm alive and well. So are you and everyone else we know. Then, of course, I often have a few moments of tears most  days about the state of things. That too takes lots some time and energy. 

After that, I ask myself if there is anything else I want to do?

I never know. Truth be told, I've really all kinds of things to do -- and -- nothing at all.

This is all changing me, like most everyone else, not in ways I would have chosen by a long shot. So it occurs to me that insofar as my writing goes, I think I'm on strike.

I’m just not gonna! And nobody’s gonna make me! I can't take any more demands these days. You know there's just got to be a limit on "to dos," especially at a time like this.

My goodness! 

It's my Rebellious Survivor Inner Child (RSC) acting out in my resistance to writing, these days. A.k.a. my Dark Side, she/he has taken over the management of my writing life and stalled it. 

She/he appears to be on strike! 

Well, I’ll be damned! Imagine that! I’m protesting.

I’m mad. I’m outraged. There's a lot of stuff I don't like at all these days.

So I'm on strike!

Spirit Sister Sue, Let’s you and I take a long look at this one, as you know I'm not prone to anger!

Me, mad? Outraged? Hope it's at least a nice Light Side anger. Not dark?? Got to check it out.

How about we talk it over, sometime later this afternoon, after I’ve taken my almost daily mountain road trek, spray washed my deck, watered all my plants and flowers, drooping from the heat, washed my dirty dishes, trying hard to keep my house clean, a true uphill battle, and am coming face to face with the fact that I've still got a lot of Jewish American Princess in me that REALLY believes I do not know how to even run a vacuum. 

And You, dear Spirit Sister Sue, will have come home from taking your husband to ONE MORE doctor’s appointment, where, if you are lucky, you will have found a tree-shaded patch somewhere near his doctor's office, safely-distanced from ALMOST all others – but not quite where you sit, sometimes somberly, pondering the state you (and I and everyone else) are in, at this moment!

Oh, dear! How did it ever come to this?

More later, I do hope, guessing I’ll have to take that little stinker, my RSC, in hand – or else HE/SHE won’t let me write again.

Damn! What frustration!
